DR DANIEL’S BEDSIDE MANNER
The Chicago Hope star is creating something of a reputation ... and no
wonder!

Thomas Gibson is scouting familiar territory as Chicago Hope’s randy medico,
Daniel Nyland.
In the film Love and Human Remains, Thomas had explicit love scenes with
another man and the character he played, David, also assisted a bondage and
discipline mistress who relied on his help in ‘tormenting’ her clients.
Thomas has also appeared as Beauchamp Day - “a character with sex on the
brain” - in the controversial series Tales Of The City, which screened
earlier this year on the ABC.
In the film Far And Away, his character competed with Tom Cruise for Nicole
Kidman’s affections, and his other credits include Age Of Innocence, Sleep
With Me and the day-time soaps Another World and As The World Turns.
Not surprisingly, Juliard School graduate Thomas says he enjoys the
challenge of tackling characters who explore their sexuality.
“I must admit that I do like to delve into the unconventional in my work,”
Thomas says.
“But the bottom line is that each project has been very interesting to me in
its own way. If a role has some virtue then I’ll consider it, regardless of
the subject matter.”
“As for the future, if some producer doesn’t want to hire me because I’ve
played so many inconventional characters, then I couldn’t care less.”
“I loved my role in Love and Human Remains. David was quite a detestable
character. But he was great fun to play because he’s so unabashed about
being bad and will bed anything that moves.”
Thomas has also relished the opportunity to play Dr Daniel Nyland - a man
with attitude - in the Seven Network’s highly regarded medical series.
“The show has been a big surprise for me,” Thomas says. “I went into it
thinking that maybe I wouldn’t get too much out of it as an actor, but I’ve
loved my time there.”
“When the idea of being in a series was first mentioned, I was concerned
that I would be stuck among a group of jaded, apathetic actors. I couldn’t
have been farther from the truth.”
“But I must admit, preparing to play Daniel was quite stressful. I only had
a week to get used to the idea of playing someone with many years of medical
experience. I had to do a crash course in medicine.”
